So, it's true. For the first time in my life I am taking a real vacation for myself. Not a vacation to visit family for the holidays but a legit vacation just for me! It's been a long time coming and this may sound selfish but I deserve it! I am going to South Carolina to visit my very best friend Jeri. I have never been to the east coast so this should be a ton of fun! We haven't really made a list of things to do while I am there, it's been more like we keep adding things to do. I think we need to sit down and map out what we are gonna do so we can take full advantage of my trip!
My friend lives near the mountainous area of South Carolina so I think we are gonna go hiking and explore what SC has to offer. I am hoping that I get there in time for the fall colors! I absolutely LOVE fall in the mountains. I have never been anywhere like New Hampshire, Vermont, or South Carolina so I hope the colors are vibrant and that God's glory can shine through! I think I will cross my fingers. ;-)
My friend mentioned traveling to the Smoky Mountains to go hiking. That would be awesome! She went camping there a few weekends ago and fell in love. She did however, freak herself out with the possibility of encountering a black bear. She cracks me up! If we do go and do, in fact, encounter a black bear we are now prepared to deal with that. ;-) She also said that there was a wood working place on the way up and I think that would be so cool to see. I can just see my dad in heaven there, he loves wood working and is really good at it. I plan to do some Christmas shopping while there so this would be a primo place to find something for my daddy! This is just another stop on my list and I hope we have the time and/or funds to take this little adventure! If we do end up going here, be on the lookout for pictures because if you know me you know I will be taking a TON of pictures! :-D
Another place I would love to visit is the beach. We talked about going to Hilton Head Island which is about 5 hours away from where my bestie lives. She has been here before and absolutely loved it. She said the beach was fun and they had really good seafood. I have not been a big fan of seafood in my lifetime and have not consumed a lot of it but in the past few years I have come to like some seafood. I guess my tastes have changed. I have heard that you have not had good seafood until you have had FRESH seafood so that is what I am going to do...try FRESH seafood!
If there is one thing that I have seen on photos that I love and can't wait to see in person is Spanish Moss on the trees and the plantations. I don't know why I am so enthralled with these 2 things but I am. I think it's beautiful when you see the moss hanging from the trees that line the driveways to the plantations. I have seen them in movies and in photos, I just can't wait to see them in person!
One place the I am most excited about is happening on my last day there. I am flying in and out of Atlanta so my last day there we are spending it in Atlanta at the Georgia Aquarium!!! I have wanted to go to this place for such a long time and I cannot wait to get in there and take some photos! This is the world's largest aquarium with more than 8.5 million US gallons of marine and fresh water housing more than 100,000 animals of 500 different species (info courtesy of Wikipedia). The one exhibit I cannot get enough of is the Ocean Voyager exhibit, mainly due to the tunnel it has. It is so beautiful in photos I have seen and I cannot wait to see it why my own two eyes!
I'm sorry if my ranting about what I want to do on my trip is boring and/or annoying but I am just too EXCITED not to talk about it! Now that I have gotten it out of my system I will not talk of it again until after my trip, then I will have photos and hopefully some good stories. I just hope I have enough energy to make it to work when I get back. I may need a vacation from my vacation! ;-)
